📜 Today in Johnson City History

One hundred and twenty-five years ago today in 1901, The Comet ran a humorous item about a minister’s wife in West Virginia who had been married three times — to men named Robin, Sparrow, and Quayle — with two young Robins, one Sparrow, and three little Quayles in the household. One grandfather had been a Swann, another a Jay. They lived on Hawk Avenue, Eaglesville. The Comet noted that the author of the piece was “a lyre bird, and an interested relative of the family.” Nineteenth-century newspaper humor at its finest.
