The global COVID-19 pandemic has claimed many lives and devastated the economy. I found myself with a little more time on my hands early on, although as a translator by profession, I wasn’t hit as hard as others. I tried to think about things I could do to help out small businesses in my local area. Of course, I’ve done the gift card buying and ordering takeout from local restaurants, but I was hoping to do a little more.
After several nights of laying in bed trying to think of something, the idea of a local business directory came to mind. 1-find.com is still a work in progress, but my hope is that it will eventually move up the pages in search engines and have a high link value to help drive traffic to the local businesses listed in the directory.
I also decided to open up the blog to guest posts so that customers could see a more personal side of the business if owners felt like sharing a personal story about how they got started or what they like most about the Tri-Cities area. This, I think, may get visitors to the business that may not otherwise have found it, especially if the business doesn’t have a web presence of its own.
