Go Natural with Northeast TN Farmers Markets

Spring is in the air and that means it’s time to begin looking for those tasty locally-grown vegetables for your diet. Many local farms have their own seasonal markets and dozens of options can be found at area cooperative markets hosted by local Northeast Tennessee towns. Go natural this spring and summer with Northeast TN farmers markets. The following is a list and brief description of the most popular. 

Johnson City Farmers Market

The Johnson City Farmers Market was established in 1976 and is open seasonally on Saturdays from Mid-Spring through October, 8am until 1pm, at 105 West Main Street in Downtown Johnson City. Look for the large covered pavilion in Founder’s Park. Vendors offer a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other great natural food items for sale. You can also find many area food trucks parked around the market area, peddling coffee, donuts, breakfast, and lunch fare. Opening soon on Saturday, May 7th. Follow them on Facebook for regular updates and features about area vendors. 

Jonesborough Farmers Market 

The Jonesborough Farmers Market is a producers-only vendor market that adds a fresh dimension to this quaint old town. Open most Saturdays in 2022 from May 7 until October 22, the market features local meat and produce vendors with booths spread throughout the parking areas surrounding the downtown courthouse. Live music on most Saturdays begins at 9am, and the market is open from 8am until noon. Bring your pets on a leash and enjoy fresh food, coffee, music, and old-town shopping in Tennessee’s Oldest Town. 

Kingsport Farmers Market 

The Kingsport Farmers Market was established in 1977 and features a smorgasbord of regional farmers and artisans. Open Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning April 30 and running into November, the market also features an evening market and live bluegrass music once per month. Check their calendar for dates and times. You can also enjoy Homegrown, a free gardening series with local growers, and Saturdays with the Chef, where local chefs demo their most popular recipes live! A Different Chick Farm & Orchard 

A Different Chick Farm and Orchard is a family-run, 5-acre farm and orchard in the heart of beautiful Johnson City, just minutes from JCMCH and East Tennessee State University. Now a USDA Certified Organic farm, and also certified by the State of Tennessee Department of Agriculture, you can always find fresh, locally grown food for your table. Look for them at the Johnson City Farmers Market each Saturday morning, or drop by the farm at 1112 Antioch Road and look for the tent out front on select weekdays. Follow them on Facebook and ask about produce shipped right to your door, plants, seeds, organic potting soil, and more! 

Boone Street Market 

The Boone Street Market is a local food congregate that hosts farmers, vendors, and artisans within 100 miles to sell fresh ingredients directly to consumers. Located in the heart of downtown Historic Jonesborough near the library at 101 Boone Street, the market is open year-round, Monday through Saturday. Enjoy fresh, local produce and ready-to-eat food items right from the cooler all year as you explore Tennessee’s oldest town. Order online for in-store or curbside pickup! The Boone Street Market is a fantastic place to grab a natural, healthy treat while enjoying Jonesborough’s many seasonal festivals. 

Farmer John’s Produce 

Farmer John’s Produce is a popular haunt for natural food lovers in and around Elizabethton, TN. Featuring a year-round supply of natural produce and goodies, Farmer John’s is open Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5:30 pm. Visit them at 2100 West Elk Avenue and browse the many displays of various fruits, veggies, homemade treats, and more. Definitely worth a stop as you travel through the area toward Roan Mountain or Watauga Lake.
