Holston Army Ammunition Plant Passed Over for Army Microreactor Program
The U.S. Army announced this week that the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport was not selected as one of the five initial sites to host a nuclear microreactor under the Army’s Janus Program. The Army announced the initial five installations selected to host nuclear microreactors and named the companies that will build and operate them, with chosen sites including Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Fort Hood, Fort Benning, and Fort Drum. The sites were picked from a list of nine finalists announced in November 2025, and Holston Army Ammunition Plant was among those short-listed but not ultimately chosen.
