ETSU Opens Emma Kate Disability Resource Center
East Tennessee State University recently cut the ribbon on the Emma Kate Disability Resource Center, providing a dedicated space and accessible resources for students with disabilities. Located on the third floor of the D.P. Culp Student Center, the center provides an accessible environment where students with disabilities can study, work and build community, featuring dedicated technology and a layout designed with accessibility in mind. The center was made possible through the generous support of Jim and Denise Montag, in honor of their daughter Emma Kate, a current ETSU student with a disability.

Washington County Awarded FEMA Funds to Upgrade Emergency Warning Systems
The State of Tennessee announced that Washington County will receive support from FEMA to strengthen emergency warning systems, as part of Tennessee being awarded funding through FEMA’s Fiscal Year 2026 Next Generation Warning System Grant Program. Approved projects for the area include outdoor warning siren modernization and expansion in Washington County, as well as a multimodal rural alerting system featuring digital signs, satellite nodes, and accessible and multilingual software. The grant will be implemented over three years, from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2029.

📜 Today in Johnson City History
One hundred and twenty-five years ago today in 1901, W.T. Johnson and Miss Jennie Cameron married at the bride’s home in Elizabethton and passed through Johnson City that same afternoon on their way west for a bridal tour — the young couple, The Comet noted, were popular figures in both towns.
