Johnson City Named Semi-Finalist for Great American Main Street Award

The award recognizes a community’s excellence in preserving and revitalizing its commercial districts. Johnson City is the only Tennessee community nominated as a semifinalist and is one of three communities east of the Mississippi River. The winner of the award will be announced in 2027.

Bomb Threat at Johnson City Medical Center — No Devices Found

The Johnson City Police Department reports that an alleged bomb threat prompted a heavy law enforcement response to Johnson City Medical Center, after medical center staff reported that a patient allegedly made a threat about “having a bomb in his vehicle.” JCPD officers and Johnson City Fire Department staff blocked off the parking lot at the hospital, and the Jonesborough Police Department carried out a K-9 search. Police physically searched a vehicle and found no devices, and the investigation is ongoing.

📜 Today in Johnson City History

One hundred and twenty-five years ago today in 1901, the Smith Veneering Company purchased three acres of land fronting the Southern Railway from P.I. Miller, with plans to build an extensive new factory on the site — one of several development projects reshaping Johnson City’s industrial edge that fall.
