Johnson City Scoop – April 25, 2026

☀️ Today’s Weather

Heavy rain expected today — high of 74°F, low of 56°F, with a 48% chance of rain. Grab an umbrella before heading out!

😄 Only in Johnson City

The Art·Struck Festival is today at Founders Park — which means Johnson City residents are currently deciding whether “a 48% chance of rain” is close enough to “probably fine.” The chalk art competitors are choosing optimism. We respect it.

🧠 Trivia Q&A

Question: Johnson City is named after a man named Henry Johnson — but what was the city called before it was renamed Johnson City, and in what decade did the name change take place?

Answer: Johnson City was originally known as Haynesville (named after Landon Carter Haynes), then briefly called Blue Plum before being renamed Johnson City in the 1870s in honor of Henry Johnson, who donated land for the railroad depot. The name Johnson City became official around 1869.
