Washington Co. School Board Unanimously Censures Member Keith Ervin Over Comment to Student

The Washington County Board of Education voted unanimously to censure a member who made an inappropriate comment toward a student at a public board meeting. During a board meeting on April 2, board member Keith Ervin told a female high school student next to him, “God, you’re hot. Do you know that? Where do you go to school at?” — the girl, a student member of the board, had just wrapped up asking questions about career and technical education when Ervin put his arm around her and made the comment.

The school board voted to censure Ervin and adjourned the meeting — marking at least the second time he has been censured, as it previously happened in 2009 after records showed he had made a “lewd, juvenile gesture of a sexual nature” during a classroom discussion at David Crockett, in front of students and teachers. The Administrator of Elections noted that school board officials cannot be terminated — they can only resign, as they are elected officials.
