KPD Investigates Suspicious Device on Cooper Street; Residents Evacuated and Later Return Home
A large, heavily-armed law enforcement presence descended on the Lynn Garden community of Kingsport on Wednesday after the Kingsport Police Department reported it was investigating a suspicious “device/substance” at a residence on Cooper Street. A resident of Cooper Street reported being evacuated from their home, and KPD stated that “residents in the affected area are being evacuated and temporarily relocated to a safe location while the matter is being investigated.” The KPD completed its initial investigation just after midnight Thursday, and evacuated residents in the Lynn Garden community were given the all-clear to return home at approximately 12:30 a.m. — more than ten hours after officers in heavy tactical armor had gone door-to-door facilitating evacuations.
