Eastern Eight CDC Celebrates New Affordable Housing Location in Johnson City

Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation recently held a ribbon-cutting at its newest rental property in Johnson City, located at 2605 Watauga Road. The development was funded through leftover state American Rescue Plan dollars, which the organization used to create affordable housing units across the region. The corporation’s executive director noted they were able to build a total of eight units across multiple locations, with four of those in Johnson City.

📜 Today in Johnson City History

One hundred and twenty-five years ago today in 1901, the Herald and Tribune carried community news from Garbers in Washington County, including the account of a charivari — a noisy neighborhood serenade — thrown for a newly married man. When the groom heard the bells and horns, he bolted and hid in a cluster of pines and cedars. His friends tracked him down anyway and gave him “a plenty for one sitting down.”
