📜 Today in Johnson City History
One hundred and twenty-five years ago today in 1901, a New York dateline reported that architects were finalizing plans for the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers near Johnson City — 35 buildings on 450 acres, built in the French Renaissance style, with a budget of $1,000,000 and capacity for 2,500 veterans. A trolley road was planned from downtown Johnson City to the entrance gate, with 300,000 visitors expected annually. That institution is now the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
