😄 Only in Kingsport
Kingsport has been carefully planned since 1919, with a downtown grid, a church circle, and a Model City nickname — and yet somehow every summer the debate over the best parking spot for Twilight Alive starts completely from scratch.
🧠 Trivia Q&A
Question: Kingsport earned its nickname “The Model City” in part because it was designed from the ground up as a planned city in the early 20th century. What is the name of the famous American city planner who designed Kingsport’s original city plan, and in approximately what year was that plan created?
Answer: Kingsport’s original city plan was designed by John Nolen, one of America’s most celebrated city planners, around 1919. Nolen’s vision — featuring a formal street grid, civic spaces, and the now-iconic Church Circle — helped earn Kingsport its enduring reputation as the “Model City.”
