Kingsport Scoop – April 20, 2026

☀️ Today’s Weather

Overcast skies for Monday — High 62°F, Low 39°F, with just a 4% chance of rain. A good day to get outside before the week gets away from you.

😄 Only in Kingsport

Kingsport has a NASCAR-sanctioned racetrack, a wolf habitat, a hand-carved carousel, and a planetarium — all within a few miles of each other. Most places pick a lane. The Model City just keeps adding them.

🧠 Trivia Q&A

Question: Kingsport Speedway is the only NASCAR-sanctioned weekly racing track in all of Tennessee — but how long has it been around, and what colorful nickname did it earn after a major surface transformation in 1996?

Answer: Kingsport Speedway opened in 1965 after local businessmen saw the success of Bristol Motor Speedway. The track went through several transformations — from dirt, to asphalt, back to dirt — and then in 1996, was converted to concrete. That concrete surface is what earned it the nickname “the Concrete Jungle,” as the track is known today. Out of current racetracks across the United States and Canada, Kingsport is the only one to feature a fully concrete surface.
