Mahoney's was founded in 1960 by Harold and Irene Mahoney at the corner of Sunset Drive and Knob Creek Road. What started as a simple Army/Navy store, eventually evolved into the premier outdoor store that it is today. In 1970, when their son Dan returned from the Army, Mahoney's began its evolution into the outdoor store you visit today. Dan added categories for clothing, footwear, hunting, and camping.

In 2008, Andreas Herholz and wife Michele embarked on a new adventure by establishing Freiberg’s German restaurant. Named after Andreas’s hometown of Freiberg, an 800 year old silver mining town in East Germany, Freiberg’s offers the upmost German experience and cuisine. From authentic German dishes and the refreshing beer imported straight from Germany, to the cozy, rustic interior, guests will get a taste of genuine German hospitality. All of Freiberg’s authentic German dishes are made from scratch. Some of the dishes takes hours to prepare and cook, if they should sell out of a particular dish, rest assured- they have a vast selection of menu options that are sure to become anyone’s favorite! Freiberg’s also offers a wide variety of vegetarian dishes including lentil soup, potato skins, or a vegetable plate.

It is both humbling and amazing to think about all that God has done at Boones Creek Christian Church over the past 175+ years. Because of God's blessing and grace, what was once a 'little country church' has grown to an average attendance of 850 in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in East Tennessee. The congregation at Boones Creek Christian Church has seen remarkable growth in church attendance and in the spirit of the membership.

One of his greatest culinary honors was when Keith was selected for the National Pizza Team (twice) and competed in Italy placing 8th in the world. ​ Keith is excited to introduce Chicago inspired Italian to Eastern Tennessee. Keith says his philosophy is simple. Did you know that Zak’s Furniture started out as a TV and Electronics store? Back in 1959, my father and my Uncle, Marvin Howard, started a joint venture specializing in TV’s and TV repair. This store was named “Bowman- Howard” and was located in the old Peerless Center. During the early 60’s, my father and uncle would dabble into selling other things such as carpet, and eventu?ally some furniture. They quickly developed a passion for the furni?ture retail industry and decided to open a furniture retail store in Boones Creek and relocated Bowman-Howard to Boones Creek in 1968. After tremendous suc?cess from their furniture retail activities, and seeing where the elec?tronics industry was heading, my father and uncle decided to focus strictly on furniture and merged the two stores into one larger furni?ture store. I can’t remember the exact date, but this was around the early 70’s timeframe. So essentially, what started as a 10,000 sq. ft. tv store turned into 160,000 sq. ft. of facilities on 14 acres of land. Zak’s is now a regional home furnishings campus serving East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina. Zak’s even reaches into Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia as well.
